            We the World would like to take advantage of the EmpowerLA Resolution that was passed on June 28, 2007 and help our collaborative partners get volunteers to help with mentoring in our schools.

Youth Mentoring
 Connection

   Targeted Market and Customers
 
         We plan to ask our collaborative members to help us reach thousands of parents and students during National Volunteer Week Recognition & Promotion Event (April 27th through May 3rd). 
 
         Additionally, we are anticipating recruiting volunteers from corporations with the help of Tony LoRe, the Executive Director of the Youth Mentoring Connection, Cristi Catlin from HBO and Kathy Mota from Toyota Motor Sales.  Additionally, we plan to work with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.) for recruiting seniors, and community colleges to recruit student interns that will receive 3 units for doing 150 – 200 hours of community service through their school.          
 
   EmpowerLA Resolution

WHEREAS, EmpowerLA is a collaborative of the Volunteer Center of Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Unified School District School Volunteer Program, The Los Angeles Police Department, the Police Activities League, Safe School Ambassadors, School Employees Union, the Mayor's Office, and the City Attorney's Office; and

WHEREAS, volunteers can connect with local community service opportunities through hundreds of community service organizations like the members of the EmpowerLA collaborative; and

WHEREAS, the entire community can effect positive change with any volunteer action no matter how big or small; and

WHEREAS, thousands of volunteers working in their communities utilize their time and talent daily to make a real difference in the lives of children; and

WHEREAS, during this week, all over the nation, service projects will be performed and volunteers recognized for their commitment to service; and

WHEREAS, EmpowerLA will work with schools to coordinate the service projects and volunteer recognitions during the National Volunteer Week; and

WHEREAS, the giving of oneself in service to another empowers the giver and the recipient; and

WHEREAS, volunteers are vital to our future as a caring and productive nation; and therefore be it

Resolved, That the Governing Board of the Los Angeles Unified School District hereby recognizes the significance of volunteers and the importance of National Volunteer Week; and be it further

Resolved , That the Governing Board of the Los Angeles Unified School District urges all schools to participate in the activities of the National Volunteer Week with the help of the EmpowerLA collaborative

   Mentor Recruits Program Expenses

            The cost for this Mentor Recruitment Program will be minimal to all collaborative organizations.  Basically the only cost involved for these organizations is just their time to help coordinate We, The World’s efforts. 
 
Section 2: Marketing
 
   Marketing Plan
 
            We the World and the Los Angeles Mentoring Coalition for Youth will will contact each of the schools that they are involved with at this time.  We will also work with the Retired Sentior Volunteer Progra (RSVP) and corporations with the help of the Youth Mentoring Connection , HBO, Toyota Motor Sales, and Rhino Entertainment who already have mentoring programs in their companies.

  
Section 3: Revenue and Expenses

            Each collaborative member's revenue and expenses will be based upon their memorandum of understanding explaining exactly what their duties and obligations are.

 Section 4: Recruitment Program

            Volunteers may work many areas.  They may choose to be a mentor, or they may assist with recruitment, or helping out in our schools.  Those who wish to aid with recruitments mentors will meet with a We the World volunteer for training. These We, The World volunteers will also be asked to be available to answer any questions or concerns about the mentoring programs they are involved with.

Section 5: Proposed Mentoring Programs

            All volunteers interested in mentoring must attend an orientation seminar and later attend one to eight hour training (depending on their program).  This will be conducted after the volunteer (mentor) has received a full background check which will usually include fingerprinting and TB testing, and an interview to ensure proper placement of mentors.

Section 6: Recruitment Team

                        -Keep in regular contact with Recruitment Office
                        -Meet with Schools, Businesses, and Retired Seniors to recruit mentors for many program
                        -Advertise for program
                        -Recruit volunteer

2. Executive Recruitment Officers

            Responsibilities:

                        -Recruit Volunteer
                        -Oversee Recruitment Officers under his or her jurisdictio
                        -Meet with target groups to expand recruitment base
                        -Set up recruitment events.

3. Recruitment Officer

            Responsibilities:

                        -recruit volunteer
                        -create advertisements for recruitment program

Section 7: Training
 
      Objective: Train Recruitment Officers to recruit volunteers

      Results:
Recruitment Officers will come to understand the impact on the lives of the children who they will ultimately be helping through providing them with mentors. They will also understand the advertisement process, and become familiar enough with the program that they will be able to meet with groups in order to expand the progra

      Training:
Training will take place on a group basis dependent on number of volunteers and scheduling. Training will be conducted by We the World Representatives and will last 1-2 hours.
 
Section 8: Mentor Training and Responsibilities
 
      All mentors trainings will take place at the collaborative member’s location.  All collaborative mentoring companies will train their own mentors.
